[ "Druturum V: Wayfarer" hasn't been played live in front of an audience. Due to various good and bad reasons (work, family, doing other things, technical issues with equipment) it got postponed further and further. And when we were finally ready to organize dates for it - and also for the next chapter "Druturum VI" - sickness set us back. Now with the whole Covid-19 situation on top of that we have decided that it won't happen, because whenever concerts will be possible again, it's just too long until then and we want to creatively move forward. As much as we would have loved to experience this piece in a real live environment, this "home session" now will remain the final version of "Druturum V: Wayfarer".]
The initial idea for "Druturum V: Wayfarer" was to be a stripped down and silent, almost "unplugged" doom jazz thing. Haha.
No, that didn't happen. (btw: Just never ever believe us, if we tell you something about the direction of any forthcoming DruturuM output before it's actually finished!)
Instead with time it developed into a big chunk of Danelectro drone doom with a cajon replacing the snare drum, a surprisingly prominent glockenspiel and lots of other weird, heavy and psychedelic things happening on the way.
As a small insight trivia into our process just listen to "druturum V-III" and imagine that for the first couple of rehearsals that whole track was based on that almost joyous and wanderlusty rhythm which even inspired the title "Wayfarer" and now only has a brief appearance at the very end around 14:30 min! Apart from its time signature it's pretty unrecognizable from that first draft.
There's also a first for DruturuM on this one: there are vocals AND lyrics on each track this time! Good for all who hate our voices: it's not that much.
You can find the lyrics in the track descriptions.
Boy, this monster took some time! Too much time, to be honest.
Of course no piece of music is ever truly finished, as long as you haven't let it out into the world in some form. So we were still adding and (hopefully) improving stuff until the very last rehearsal before this recording.
Due to the fact that "Druturum V" is long overdue and we are eager to create new stuff, we changed our modus operandi.
In the past we first released the live show and then the final rehearsal. But our recording possibilities have improved a bit since then and we reeaaally had to get this out of our system for a while.
As you can notice the tracks are no longer named "rehearsal V-I" etc., but "druturum V-I (home session"), just to show these recordings more respect than previously.
This is still NOT a studio recording.
Everything was played and operated live without subsequent overdubs. We only tweaked some stuff with additional reverb and echo.
It's all on us what we hold tight.
Our lifetimes are the Wayfarer's path.
